Trier to Traben-Trarbach
99kms total 355kms
We slowly got underway at about 9. The whole day we just followed the very nice cycling paths between vine covered hill sides, but to tell the truth after about a few hours it began to get old. It was beautiful to cycle through but its all the same around every turn. But riding through these picturesque villages is a real treat nice and quiet with each one having its own wine house. The weather again was perfect and we took this opportunity to get a proper German sausage and a half liter of Bitburger beer (every cyclists staple ;-) in the sun overlooking the Mosel, it was great just to sit back and chill. We noticed there are quite a few caravan parks along this part of the river but few proper camping's, we had a rough time finding this camping place in Traven-Trarbach. Later in the evening we met these two German girls from Aachen (I think), Andrea and Jasmine we had a nice chat and a couple of beers with them. Strange shower setup at this camping, first you pay 20 euros forth the card, than you pay another 10 euros which you get 40 minutes worth of shower (you get back what you don't use), than you pass this card (with chip in it) over this metal box (each pass adds 2 min.) and you get hot water. Sounds a bit complex but it worked great as you can stay under a bit longer.
Left to Right: 1&2 the very nice cycling paths along the Mosel. 3- whole hillsides covered in grape vines. 4- Nice and quiet villages along the way. 5- Monument as to how they moved the wine in the old days. 6- And one of the wine houses we passed through.
1- After passing by all this nice little terraces we just had to stop in one and sit for a while. 2- Even though this is wine country we just love our cold beer in the sun and the German sausage right from the spit. 3- A beautiful chateau nestled in green nest to the Mosel. 4- For the right money you can take an aerial tour of the Mosel, a bit out of our budget though. 5- Some ruins. 6- Enjoying some beer with Jasmine (L) and Andrea (R). |
